Don't steal my crown, Patrick.

The year before last I started Christmas shopping in August. Last year I started in July. This year, I looked at the calendar and realized, "ohemgee, it's nearly October and I haven't purchased the first Christmas gift yet!" I don't know what my deal has been but I just haven't wanted to shop lately. Since finding out I'm spawning, my interest in Marshall's has plummeted. And that makes me sad, 'cause me and Marshall's? We're like that . My interest in shopping altogether--pppbbbbtttt. Nuthin. Spending money on anything that isn't food or bills has become a struggle. And it makes no sense to me whatsoever. What was worrying me more than my lack of desire to buy designer shoes at discount prices, though, was my lack of interest in really getting cranking on my Christmas shopping. I love Christmas. Love. LOVE. Lurve. And I love getting a jump on the shopping so that I'm not scrambling around last minute like a chicken with...

Sorry I don't feel worse.

Since the news broke that my body is a dual-occupancy dwelling unit (me + 1), I've been asked the same few questions by numerous people. I have to admit that as fun as it is getting lots of positive attention and love because Patrick and I managed to do something kajillions of other people have done (and it's also a blessing and a wonderful thing, yes, yes), I have a limit to how much I can discuss it. It's like Wedding Planning 2.0. When we were engaged, it was fun to talk wedding ideas and plans... for a bit. After a while, I was generally ready to move on to another topic. Same with Baby Perfect, so-called because this child will be exactly that--perfect. (Duh.) I can talk about it for a little while. People who care naturally want to know what's going on. (So do people who are naturally nosey.) And I'm happy to fill them in... for a bit. During the several brief conversations I've had with these caring (or nosey) people, I get the weird feeling that pe...

Go shawty. It's my birthday.

But with all due respect to Mr. Cent, I will not sip Bacardi like it's my birthday. Yuck. I don't even like Bacardi. What I would like to sip is a nice, cold Chardonnay. Or a Vodka Tonic (with lime). What I  will sip is a glass of chilled water with lemon in it. That's going to be the kind of Boring Fun that this blogging empire of mine was founded on. I'm 31 today. And I'm having a much easier time of it than when I turned 30. I didn't actually get all, "I'm crying in the corner of a darkened room, so please leave a message at the beep and I'll call you next week," when I turned 30, but I also didn't embrace it as, "Finally, out of my 20's and this is the decade I'll love the most, according to some article I read once!" Mostly I was just, "Ew. 30. Not 29. Not 28. Not twenty-anything. T-H-I-R-T-Y." The point is, I've accepted that my youth is behind me and I'll now enter a swift decline, so this...

Much to your joy and delight, and I'm back at last to continue the tale of our super fun family vacation to California . You already know we enjoyed an early wake-up on the day on departure, undrinkable coffee, a welcoming committee in California, and some In-n-Out goodness. So what lay in wait for your favorite little ol' Boring (sometime) blog post writer, her dashing fella, and their delightful cousin cohorts? Find out in... Part II of our Totally Tubular California Vacation! While drinking our suspiciously decanted beverages (of the Cold Rocky Mountain variety) and chowing on our tasty burgers and fries, Bruce, manning the wheel, drives us to his and Kristin's crappy little   kinda alright   pretty neat  completely kick arse house. Even if it had been a really fancy kind of cardboard shack we'd still have been thrilled to be there. Luckily, though, it wasn't. It was a very comfortable and airy house with a great kitchen (says the girl who has...

Hooray for non-wedding photos.

For the first time in ages--or more accurately, roughly 1 year and 7 months, the length of time I've been married--neither my facebook timeline photo or profile picture have anything to do with my wedding. This morning, I saw some photos taken a few weekends ago posted online by our cousin Kristin. She and her husband, Bruce, were in St. Augustine for a week before a belated Jamaican honeymoon, and we'd driven over to visit and spend a night with them and the Jacksonville family. Yes, they are the same Kristin and Bruce who we visited in California roughly 4 months ago, which vacation you know nothing about other than the fact that we traveled there and ate burgers. I swear, I have Part II written, I've just been insanely lazy about posting pictures to the entry so I can post it at last. (I've been insanely lazy about the whole blog thing. But, since I make no money and never made any real promises about keeping this a regular thing, well... consider this post ...

Rediculous.

I humbly confess that I frequently misspell a number of words that I'm pretty sure I used to know how to spell. I'd at least wager that I managed to get many of my now poorly-constructed words spelled correctly on grade school spelling tests. (Or maybe not.) Spellcheck has ruined me. I don't even type as well as I used to. Why should I, when Outlook automatically corrects "hte" to "the" for me? On the one hand, I do appreciate not having to try. On the other hand, I'm now dumber. Hmmm. That said, there are some words that I DO still know how to spell. And because I know how to spell them, I assume the ENTIRE WORLD should also know how to spell them. By some curious happenstance, I can spell "miscellaneous" without a second thought. But I'll seriously have to remind myself that it's "surprise" instead of "surprize." (That's how it sounds !) You ever have those moments where your brain completely shu...

Not dead.

I thought I'd take a moment to come out of hiding and let you know, I'm not dead. Also, I will probably finally be getting to Part II of the story of our Cali vaca (which, yes, occurred in APRIL) soon! I know you've been waiting with bated breath. (Or not.) In the meantime, here's a fun story: Once upon a time, there was a lovely young lady. Her hair used to be blond but was now just kind of mousy, and her contacts had been bugging her the last few months so she wore glasses all the time. Yes, she was glamorous. Then tragedy struck. She realized that in a month and a half she would be turning 31. Then she pouted; her husband even gave her a sympathy pout. But her husband will be in his 20's for a few more years (she has cougarish tendencies) so he really didn't get it. He tried, at least, and that matters. The end. Not as fun as I thought. Sorry.
