Case study: Girls' night.

Image
Back in the dark ages  Early Aughts when I was in my early 20's, Girls' Night was such a thing to aspire to.  I went back in time and contacted myself from about a decade or so ago to see if I could get an insider's perspective on what a Girls' Night is all about. Me from 2003, take it away: Hi! I'm awkward, extra-skinny, big bangs 21-year-old Rebecca! I look 16, which sucks, because no one takes me seriously. The big bangs, total inability to dress myself well, and general awkward demeanor may have something to do with that. Old-As-Dirt-and-What-Happened-to-My-Boobs-Did-I-Have-Surgery-Rebecca asked me to talk to you about girls' night out. (Yes, even at 21, I want to use the proper apostrophe.)  Well let me tell you, I want to feel like and be perceived as the grown-up that I am! (Because, I definitely am a grown-up. Right? If you call yourself a grown-up, you probably are just that. Because 40 year olds often say,  "Hey, I'm a grown-up, and ...

I'm back like Britney.

'Sup, guys. It's been a little minute, right? Did you miss me? ("You've been away?" Yes, yes I have. Thanks for noticing.) Since you're as giddy as a popular girl on yearbook day to find out how I've been, here is a brief rundown of what I've been up to since, ummm... February? 1) March: Learned that Prune Candy is a girl when she came forth unto this world after what felt like 9 eternites of pushing (acutally more like 2 hours). She's awesome and we love her like, um, a whole lot. 2) March-June: Took 3 months off work to be home with her. Learned that I definitely prioritize binge-watching various TV shows over cleaning house when a child is sleeping. Good thing I didn't quit work to stay home for good. 3) March-today: Intended to do all of the exercises. Actually did almost none of them. Still rockin' the muffin top. Baby feet=love 4) June-today: Went back to work and put the baby in day care. (Confession: While emot...

Year in review.

If the last day of the year isn't an appropriate time to look back over the year, then I don't know when is. Since you're just itching to know what my year looked like in a nutshell, I graciously decided to jot a few notes down for you. Consider it my (really lame) gift to you. Celebrated 1 year of marriage in January. (Un)Officially became marriage experts and decided we'll never encounter any difficulties after a solid year of marriage under the belt to prove that we definitely have it all figured out. Lost a family friend and a cousin. Took a trip cross-country to California in April. Sipped wine. Dipped my toes in the Pacific Ocean. Quickly removed toes from the Pacific Ocean. (That sucka is C-O-L-D.) Climbed mountains. Made friends with a local deer and a goat. Ate lots. Laughed lots. Babies were born, including my precious little Goddaughter, who likes me better than Uncle Patrick. Sometimes. My nephew turned 3 in May and my niece turned 8 in December! (Q...

Much to your joy and delight, and I'm back at last to continue the tale of our super fun family vacation to California . You already know we enjoyed an early wake-up on the day on departure, undrinkable coffee, a welcoming committee in California, and some In-n-Out goodness. So what lay in wait for your favorite little ol' Boring (sometime) blog post writer, her dashing fella, and their delightful cousin cohorts? Find out in... Part II of our Totally Tubular California Vacation! While drinking our suspiciously decanted beverages (of the Cold Rocky Mountain variety) and chowing on our tasty burgers and fries, Bruce, manning the wheel, drives us to his and Kristin's crappy little   kinda alright   pretty neat  completely kick arse house. Even if it had been a really fancy kind of cardboard shack we'd still have been thrilled to be there. Luckily, though, it wasn't. It was a very comfortable and airy house with a great kitchen (says the girl who has...

Hooray for non-wedding photos.

For the first time in ages--or more accurately, roughly 1 year and 7 months, the length of time I've been married--neither my facebook timeline photo or profile picture have anything to do with my wedding. This morning, I saw some photos taken a few weekends ago posted online by our cousin Kristin. She and her husband, Bruce, were in St. Augustine for a week before a belated Jamaican honeymoon, and we'd driven over to visit and spend a night with them and the Jacksonville family. Yes, they are the same Kristin and Bruce who we visited in California roughly 4 months ago, which vacation you know nothing about other than the fact that we traveled there and ate burgers. I swear, I have Part II written, I've just been insanely lazy about posting pictures to the entry so I can post it at last. (I've been insanely lazy about the whole blog thing. But, since I make no money and never made any real promises about keeping this a regular thing, well... consider this post ...

Oh! Hello there. Nice to see you again. Yes, it's been a minute since you've last heard from me. Whether you missed me or wish I'd gone a little longer without giving you the lyrical poetry that is my writing--I'm very sorry. But if you wish I didn't post so much, why would you be reading? I must, therefore, assume that if you are reading this, you longed for my next post and are having fits of joy over this one! You're so nice. :) As I mentioned not too long ago when I gave you the picture of a goat as a teaser to our amazing California vacation, I told you I've been pretty busy. Normally, that's a sad excuse for all sorts of things, but for this blog and my lack of posts? Totally valid. Erego, feeling no need to justify my long absence from the intertubs, I move on to telling you about, Part I of our Totally Tubular California Vacation! The first part of any vacation, really, is the anticipation of the trip. I began pre-planning outfi...

Post-vacation blues.

Well, folks, I'm fresh back from a wonderful, fantastic most Boring-est Fun vacation a girl could have hoped for. This also means I am pooped. As per the request of the more manly half of Norgren Duo (our gracious and amazing hosts--and cousins!), there will be tales of frolicking in meadows, of hiking mountains, of tasting fine wines, of exercising for the Fun of it, of sunning in SLO (San Luis Obispo), of eating clam chowda on the West Coast. O f pregnant goats at yard parties. But not today. Today I am tired, back at work, and coming off my vacation high. Do not fear, though! I took copious notes and hope to be able to cobble something together that doesn't make you roll your eyes too hard or fall asleep with boredom. Until then, here's a picture for you to whet your appetite for more.   Hi. My name is Chloe and I'm about to birth some babies. Happy (almost) Friday.
