Life lessons from Lizzie.

It's been a little while since I've updated you on my precious feline child, Lizzie. Nothing's new. I mean, she's a cat. She doesn't get up to a whole heckuva lot. However, with 6 years of parenting this weird, furry child, I have picked up on some pretty awesome life lessons from her. I think you could benefit from knowing these things, too. How Life Should be Done, According to Lizzie 1)  If you don't work out, be a work out coach. Lizzie knows my dedication to exercise isn't as consistent as it could be. When I manage to start squatting and lunging and planking, she makes it a point to walk right underneath me while I'm attempting these moves. It provides me with some much needed company--a swat at my ankles lets me know I'm loved. It's also extremely helpful in keeping me on my toes. It forces me to perform some spectacularly acrobatic moves to avoid stepping on her while she steadfastly refuses to move! Put it into practice : It...

Post-vacation blues.

Well, folks, I'm fresh back from a wonderful, fantastic most Boring-est Fun vacation a girl could have hoped for. This also means I am pooped. As per the request of the more manly half of Norgren Duo (our gracious and amazing hosts--and cousins!), there will be tales of frolicking in meadows, of hiking mountains, of tasting fine wines, of exercising for the Fun of it, of sunning in SLO (San Luis Obispo), of eating clam chowda on the West Coast. O f pregnant goats at yard parties. But not today. Today I am tired, back at work, and coming off my vacation high. Do not fear, though! I took copious notes and hope to be able to cobble something together that doesn't make you roll your eyes too hard or fall asleep with boredom. Until then, here's a picture for you to whet your appetite for more.   Hi. My name is Chloe and I'm about to birth some babies. Happy (almost) Friday.

Family affair.

I'm not lazy. I'm conserving energy. As I've mentioned before, I have a cat named Lizzie. I've had her almost five years, and she's nearly six years old. She was found by her previous owners as a tiny little kitten alone in a ditch. (Insert: Awwww!) They didn't know if she'd been abandoned, left for dead, or simply separated from her mom, but they scooped her up and although they already had two cats, they took her home and named her Elizabeth. I've always found it odd when people can remember all the pets they've had in their life. By that, I mean, that they remember all 5 or 6 pets they've had. My parents (my dad, in particular) have a complete inability to live without a pet. I remember briefly, a few years ago, when they "only" had one cat and one dog. (Presently they're back up to two cats and two dogs.) When I was a child, my Sunday school teacher asked each of us how many pets we owned. I counted off 16. Okay, that was ...

Postmortem predation.

Lizzie is my cat. She is fat and very pretty, mostly white with dark gray spots, and her nose looks like a little gray heart. She lays on her back with all paws in the air just like a dog. She likes to sit by recently-worn shoes. It's a little weird. She has a trilling meow; our friend says she must be Castilian because she really rolls her R's. She's just the most adorable thing. Usually. Isn't she adorable? An ex-boyfriend's sister once gave me a magnet for my fridge with a picture of a cat licking its chops and the phrase, "There is no snooze on a cat who wants breakfast." Too true. Lizzie is served her meals at 7a.m. and 7p.m. To make sure we don't oversleep and miss her breakfast time, it is often her pleasure to jump on the bed and walk on the pillows, stand on my hair, all the while loudly meowing and poking me in the face with her sharp little claw. This can begin as early at 5:45. On a workday, it's tolerable. It's most likel...
